I do know the 3400 V6 was one of those marvels of GM. It has the power of a 4 cylinder, and the gas mileage of a V8. Don't get me wrong it was peppy for a lumina of it's day, but it left a lot to be desired.

Okay, here is the thing. DOHC motors are a high revving situation, in alot of cases you have to rev the shit out of them to make that sort of power. Yes it is possible for a 220 Hp motor to be slow. Look at our motors, sure they have 240Hp but they aren't exactly a rocket in stock form.

case and point..... Pushrod engines have a broad powerband, where overhead valve engines have a narrow powerband. They only make power at a smaller RPM range than pushrod engines.

2010 camaro 300hp 3.6L overhead cam V6.... runs something like a mid 14 quarter mile time. (Yes I'm aware it also has an extra 200ish lbs)
2007 Nissan 350Z 3.5L overhead cam V6 306hp ...... runs low to mid 14's in the quarter.

1997-2003 stock GTP grand Prix with a pushrod V6 and only 240hp runs mid to high 14' in the quarter.
My 2000 GTP with 280ish hp will run ~high 13's low 14's and weighs over 3400lbs
2009 mustang with 300hp V8 runs mid to high 13's in the quarter and weighs almost 3500lbs.

In 1/4 mile times half a second is a big deal to engines that "make nearly the same power" with nearly the same weight range vehicles.
