Help--- key stuck in the ignition

Postby reveregtp » Mon May 26, 2008 5:47 pm

I am new to this. I think I posted this already in the wrong place. Anyhow, my key has been stuck in my ignition for weeks. Anybody have any ideas?

Help--- key stuck in the ignition

Postby Condore21 » Mon May 26, 2008 7:33 pm

Hey, welcome to the site. Here are a couple things that you can try to get the key out. Sometimes the key will not release because of low voltage in the ignition system. Check your battery connections to see if they are loose or if they are corroded. Also, how old is your battery, it might not be putting out enough amperage.

Second, under the steering column there is a little plug, pop that out and take a ball point pen or something and stick it there, that should release the key. Good luck and keep us posted.

If the key comes out and sticks again, it may be time for a new ignition.

sometimes if you have the wheel turned in the lock position with the car off it won't let go of the key either.

Try rotating the steering wheel a little bit while you try to lightly wiggle the key out.

The button under the steering column did not work? Are you sure you used the right key? Maybe it is jammed in there...
